EUROPEAN POET OF FREEDOM

The European Poet of Freedom is a literary award, poetry festival and publishing series presenting the volumes of authors shortlisted for the given edition of the competition. The EPF is organised every two years.

The 9th edition of the European Poet of Freedom Festival will take place in Gdańsk between 16 and 18 April 2026. The programme entitled “Points of Contact” is conceived by Magdalena Kicińska and Małgorzata Lebda.

Six volumes were shortlisted for the European Poet of Freedom Literary Award in 2026: Amina Elmi, With All My Love (transl. by Bogusława Sochańska), Nora Iuga, The Circle’s Captivity (transl. by Enormi Stationis), Laima Kreivytė, States of Weightlessness (transl. by Dominika Jagiełka), Luigi Nacci, How Light Passes. Poems from 2004–2024 (transl. by Joanna Ganobis), Roger Robinson, A Portable Paradise (transl. by Bartosz Wójcik), A.E. Stallings, The Other Side of the Detail. Poems from 1999–2024 (transl. by Janusz Solarz).

The award was designed to promote high-quality poetry that addresses one of the most important themes of the contemporary world: freedom. It is funded by the City of Gdańsk. The Festival and Award are organised by the City Culture Institute, which also publishes the shortlisted volumes.
